UK Post Office Horizon Scandal

UK Post Office Horizon Scandal

Between 1999 and 2015, the UK Post Office prosecuted 736 sub-postmasters and postmistresses based on faulty data from the Horizon accounting system, developed by Fujitsu. The software contained bugs that created false shortfalls by mishandling transactions, corrupting data, and failing to process inputs correctly. Workers were accused of theft, forced to repay money that was never missing, and in many cases sent to prison for crimes they had not committed.
