Eden's Apple from Latin Pun

Eden's Apple from Latin Pun

The Bible never names the forbidden fruit as an apple. This belief comes from a linguistic twist of Latin. In Latin, m?lum means apple, while m?lum (pronounced differently) means evil. Medieval translators played on that pun, turning "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" into "apple tree of knowledge." Thus, the iconic apple in Eden may owe more to translation than to scripture.
