The Sixth Sense's Unlikely Inspiration

Director M. Night Shyamalan once admitted that Nickelodeon's horror anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? influenced his work. He particularly admired the 1994 episode The Tale of the Dream Girl, which tells the story of a teenager who discovers he is dead and can only interact with certain people. This concept later inspired Shyamalan's screenplay for The Sixth Sense (1999), which became a cultural phenomenon.
