In the 1997 Simpsons episode "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)," Homer coats his mouth in hot wax so he can eat extremely spicy chili peppers. Fox censors worried children might imitate him and requested that he scream in pain after doing it. Rather than incorporating a scream, the writers skillfully included a line from Ralph Wiggum questioning Homer about his actions, thereby defusing the situation while maintaining the humor.
