In 2004, shoppers at the Ycuá Bolaños supermarket in Asunción, Paraguay, faced a nightmare when a fire erupted inside the busy store. As smoke and flames spread, panicked customers ran for the exits, only to discover they'd been locked. The owners had sealed the doors to prevent theft during the chaos.
Nearly 400 people died, and almost 500 were injured, making it one of Paraguay's worst disasters.
