Lee Lozano, a radical American conceptual artist based in New York City, launched her work-as-art project "Decide to Boycott Women" in 1971, vowing never to speak to or interact with other women. Motivated by her frustration with the art world's gender politics, she cut off all ties with female friends, family, colleagues, and supporters-and never ended the boycott, maintaining it for the remaining 27 years of her life until her death in 1999.
