In 1995, Iraqi generals Hussein Kamel al-Majid and his brother Saddam Kamel-both cousins of Saddam Hussein and married to his daughters-defected to Jordan and began cooperating with Western intelligence. The following year, Saddam lured them back to Iraq with promises of forgiveness. Within three days of their return in 1996, both brothers were killed in an armed standoff with members of their own clan.
