Leo Gao's $10 Million Escape

In 2009, a New Zealander named Leo Gao discovered that his bank had deposited $10 million into his account by mistake. He and his girlfriend fled the country, igniting an international manhunt that spanned two years until his capture in Hong Kong. Gao was later sentenced but paroled after 16 months, even though the court believed he still controlled the $3.7 million that was never recovered.
