First Autism Diagnosis: Donald Triplett

In 1943, psychiatrist Leo Kanner formally diagnosed American banker Donald Gray Triplett, from Mississippi, with autism, referring to him as "Case 1" in his landmark study. This diagnosis marked the first clinically recognized case of autism and laid the foundation for modern autism research. Triplett went on to lead a long, independent life, working at a bank for decades and passing away at the age of 89 in 2023.
