Modu Chanyu's Loyalty Test

Before becoming the first Xiongnu emperor in the 2nd century B.C., Modu Chanyu tested his men's loyalty by commanding them to shoot his favorite horse and one of his wives. Those who refused were executed. He became emperor by ordering his men to kill his father with arrows during a hunt.
