Thomas S. Briggs Turns Himself In

In 1994, Thomas S. Briggs became the first person to escape from Marion Federal Prison in Illinois by scaling two 15-foot fences topped with razor wire. Just four days later, he voluntarily turned himself in to the FBI in Chicago, claiming he needed their help to patent his homemade water desalination invention-which agents later described as more eccentric than effective.
