Taro and Jiro: Husky Survival Story

In 1958, during Japan's first Antarctic expedition, 15 Sakhalin Huskies were left behind at Showa Station due to an emergency evacuation. Taro and Jiro, the youngest at three years old, though chained, survived for 11 months, possibly by hunting penguins and seals. They were discovered alive in 1959, becoming national heroes. Jiro remained in Antarctica until his death in 1960, while Taro returned to Japan, living at Hokkaido University until his death in 1970.
