Antarctica's Blood Falls Phenomenon

Antarctica's Blood Falls Phenomenon

In Antarctica, Blood Falls is a waterfall at the terminus of Taylor Glacier in East Antarctica's Taylor Valley, where water, completely devoid of oxygen but rich in iron and sodium, gushes out and rusts when exposed to air, turning blood red, making the glacier appear as if it's bleeding. The highly saline brine supports microbial life that thrives in the absence of sunlight, and the flow is sustained by a subglacial lake beneath the glacier.
