Surgeon Performs Own Surgery

In 1961, Dr. Leonid Rogozov, a Russian surgeon stationed in Antarctica, performed an emergency appendectomy on himself without anesthesia. As the only doctor on the base, he had no other choice but to carry out the surgery himself after developing acute appendicitis.
