Groundhog Day's Delayed Explanation

Columbia Pictures refused to greenlight "Groundhog Day" (1993) without an explanation for why Phil becomes trapped in the same day. Producer Trevor Albert and director Harold Ramis placated the studio but deliberately scheduled these scenes late in the shooting to avoid filming them.
