Sigourney Weaver's Historic Nomination

With "Aliens" (1986), Sigourney Weaver earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Although she did not win, the nomination was a landmark for actresses in the science fiction/horror genre, which had previously received little recognition.
