M&Ms Inspired by Spanish Civil War

M&Ms were created in 1941 after Forrest Mars, heir to the Mars Company, observed soldiers in the Spanish Civil War eating Smarties (British M&Ms). He noticed the hard-colored shell prevented the chocolate from melting, making them appealing to the U.S. Army, who was their sole customer during World War II.
