French Physicist's Sark Invasion

French Physicist's Sark Invasion

In 1990, André Gardes, an unemployed French nuclear physicist, attempted a solo invasion of the island of Sark, claiming he was the rightful ruler and announcing his plan with posters. He was on the island specifically to assert this claim, motivated by a belief that Sark's feudal government was illegitimate. During the attempt, a local constable complimented his gun, and when Gardes removed the magazine to demonstrate it, the officer tackled and arrested him. He attempted another invasion in 1991.
