In 1990, 17-year-old Brian Jewell, a teenager working at a haunted hayride in Lakewood, New Jersey, felt awkward scaring people by jumping out of the woods. Instead, he replaced a skeleton hanging by a noose in a tree as part of the act. Tragically, when he struggled to remove the rope from his neck, onlookers thought it was part of the performance and watched him die. His feet were touching the ground, and the death was later ruled accidental.
