British Expulsion of Diego Garcia

In 1971, the British expelled the entire population of Diego Garcia, relocating them to Mauritian slums to allow the United States to build a military base on the island. Over 1,500 Chagossians were forcibly removed, and despite decades of legal battles, they remain barred from returning to their homeland, which now hosts a major U.S. military facility.
