Star Wars Preservation Efforts

In 1989, the Library of Congress selected "Star Wars" (1977) as one of the first films for preservation. However, it has yet to receive an archival print of the original film. Although George Lucas tried to submit a "Special Edition" print in 1997, they rejected it due to alterations from the 1977 version.
