Doctor Died Proving Mosquito Theory

In 1900, physician Jesse William Lazear set out to prove that mosquitoes transmitted yellow fever. He allowed an infected mosquito to bite him and subsequently contracted the disease, thereby confirming his hypothesis. Tragically, he did not recover and died 17 days later.
