Vanishing of the Honjo Masamune

Forged by the legendary 13th-century swordsmith Masamune, the Honj? Masamune was regarded as Japan's finest sword and a symbol of power, ultimately becoming a National Treasure held by the Tokugawa family. After World War II, during Japan's disarmament, the sword was surrendered to the American military and turned over to a man claiming to be Sergeant Coldy Bimore-a person who seemingly never existed-after which the sword vanished without a trace.

Theories about the sword's fate range from its quiet smuggling to America by a serviceman or collector, to its possible destruction during post-war metal scrap processing, with unclear military records and lost documentation deepening the mystery. Despite a detailed record of the blade's signature design, the sword has never resurfaced, and fear of legal repercussions may be deterring its reveal if it still exists in private hands.
