Little Sandy Creek in Wyoming was a crucial stop along the Oregon and Mormon Trails. Depending on the season, it could be the last water source for 40 miles. So many travelers underestimated the harsh stretch ahead that the trail became littered with abandoned wagons, animal carcasses, and makeshift graves.
