Peaceful Chief Black Kettle Betrayed

Cheyenne Chief Black Kettle, a strong advocate for peace between Native Americans and white settlers, suffered betrayal twice. Despite agreements of non-hostility, American troops attacked his village on two occasions, ultimately killing and mutilating him along with over 200 Cheyenne villagers.
