Native to Southeast Asia and India, the Pong Pong Tree, also known as "The Suicide Tree," bears a fruit called othalanga. Its seeds contain cerberin, a potent cardiac glycoside so toxic that ingestion can cause crippling stomach pain, diarrhea, irregular heart rhythm, vomiting, and headache before leading to a slow, painful death-often within hours. Historically, this tree has been used in trials by ordeal as well as for suicide and homicide; even accidental ingestion is deadly.
