Henbane

Found in Europe, North Africa, and Asia, henbane was once used in ancient potions for witches and visionary experiences. This toxic plant induces severe delirium, convulsions, extreme thirst, frenzied speech, hallucinations, and a sense of impending doom. In medieval times, it was even baked into bread to drive rivals insane, and it may have contributed to the berserker rage of Viking warriors. It was added to German beer until it was banned in 1516, and in modern times, a celebrity chef once mistakenly recommended it as a salad ingredient.
