Habsburg Vampire Investigation

During the Habsburg monarchy, belief in vampires was so widespread that Empress Maria Theresa sent her personal physician, Gerard van Swieten, to investigate. After concluding that vampires did not exist, she officially outlawed all forms of "anti-vampire" corpse desecration.
