Black Licorice Causes Heart Failure

In Massachusetts, a construction worker died after consuming excessive amounts of black licorice over an extended period. Licorice contains a chemical that can inhibit a kidney enzyme, leading to a dangerous loss of potassium via urine. The resulting imbalance caused his heart to stop.
