Onion Futures Trading Ban

The Onion Futures Act, a US law, bans futures contracts on onions. In 1955, two traders cornered the market by acquiring 98% of Chicago's onion supply and futures contracts. They then threatened to flood the market unless growers bought back their own stock, prompting the government to intervene.
