Town Treasurer Stole $53 Million

Rita Crundwell, the treasurer for the rural town of Dixon, Illinois, embezzled over $53 million over 20 years, severely crippling the town's infrastructure due to budget shortages. In 2013, she was sentenced to 19 years and 7 months in federal prison, just shy of the 20-year maximum.
