GSK’s $3 Billion Fraud Settlement

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, pleaded guilty to criminal charges for illegally promoting prescription drugs, failing to report safety data, bribing doctors, and marketing medicines for unapproved uses. In 2012, under prosecution by the U.S. Department of Justice, GSK settled for $3 billion (£1.9 billion) in what became the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history.
