Typhoon Caused Genetic Colorblindness

On the atoll of Pinglelap, approximately 10% of the population has total colorblindness, while another 30% are unaffected carriers of the gene. This genetic trait resulted from a population bottleneck caused by a 1775 typhoon that left only 20 survivors, one of whom carried the gene for colorblindness.
