Elan School's Torturous Escape Environment

Elan School in Maine operated as a child behavior modification camp from 1970 to 2011. Using techniques reminiscent of those in Lord of the Flies, its staff psychologically tortured children for years, which led to extraordinarily high suicide rates. Furthermore, bounty hunters pursued any child who attempted to escape across the country.
