The Deadliest U.S. Hurricane

In 1900, a Category 4 hurricane tore through the Bahamas and headed toward Texas. Cuban weather stations warned the U.S. Weather Bureau that the storm was moving west, but officials ignored them, insisting it was heading north. The hurricane made landfall in Texas, killing up to 12,000 people-the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history.
