In 1994, the Rwandan Genocide killed 800,000 people in just 100 days, making it the most rapid genocide in history. On average, 10,000 were murdered daily-400 every hour, or 7 per minute. Some victims paid to be killed by bullets to avoid death by machetes or clubs. The genocide also triggered conflicts that eventually claimed 5.4 million more lives.
