Jefferson's $500,000 Wine Mishap

In 1989, a wine bottle from Thomas Jefferson's collection was valued at $500,000 by its owner, William Sokolin. During a Margaux dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel, a waiter accidentally knocked over and shattered the bottle. The insurance settlement paid Sokolin $225,000.
