Volkswagen Beetle Could Float Briefly

The original Volkswagen Beetle could temporarily float on water because of its sealed steel bottom, with nothing exposed underneath. In 1972, Volkswagen even aired a television commercial demonstrating the Beetle's ability to float. At the time, the Beetle sold for $1,999 (approximately $12,000 today).
