Before the Hummer, the U.S. Army used over 15,000 "Gamma Goats." These vehicles, designed to look like a Jeep towing a trailer, were actually 7,000-pound, six-wheel-drive, four-wheel-steering vehicles with excellent off-road capabilities, though they performed poorly on roads.
