GM Kept Dangerous Gas Tank Placement

General Motors intentionally kept the 1979 Chevy Malibu's gas tank dangerously close to the rear of the vehicle. Instead of spending an additional $8.59 per vehicle to relocate the gas tank to a safer position, GM estimated it would only cost $2.40 per vehicle to settle personal injury lawsuits.
