Renault Briefly Owned Jeep Brand

Jeep, originally an all-American brand, was bought by French automaker Renault in 1979. Renault's ownership helped Jeep produce one of its most successful off-road vehicles, the XJ. However, Renault sold Jeep to Chrysler eight years later, leaving the U.S. market for good.
