Sultana Disaster

The Sultana disaster of 1865 was deadlier than the Titanic. The Sultana, carrying six times its allotted passengers, sank on the Mississippi River, resulting in the deaths of over 1,100 Union soldiers. This tragedy did not receive much attention as it occurred days after the assassination of Lincoln.
