Tony Awards' Namesake History

The Tony Awards were named after a woman. Antoinette "Tony" Perry was an actress, producer, and theater director who co-founded the American Theatre Wing, which entertained soldiers during World War II. Her death led to the creation of the Tony Awards in her honor.
