Washington's Emancipation and Proclamation

In his will, George Washington left directions to emancipate all the enslaved people he owned after Martha Washington died. On January 1, 1801, all the enslaved people he owned were freed. On January 1, 1863, 62 years later, the Emancipation Proclamation came into effect.
