Lincoln's Watermelon Ceremony

On August 27, 1853, Abraham Lincoln led a ceremony by the railroad tracks in Lincoln, Illinois, to mark the founding of the new town named after him. Lincoln "christened" the railroad trackside with watermelon juice.
