Pilots in the 1930s and 1940s navigated aircraft using Morse code. The "low-frequency radio range" system signaled left turns with the letter A, right turns with the letter N, and a continuous tone for straight flight. Pilots spent hours listening to Morse code, and this system was prone to giving wrong directions.
