Anthem Singing Tradition

The tradition of singing the national anthem at the start of a sporting event has its origins in 1905 in Cardiff. During a rugby match, the Welsh Rugby Union team led the crowd in a rendition of 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau' as a response to New Zealand's famous haka.
