When Albert Grossman, Janis Joplin's manager, learned about her substance abuse, he chose to buy a $200,000 insurance policy on her life instead of addressing her addiction. In her will, Janis Joplin left $2,500 for her friends to "have a ball after I'm gone." The Grateful Dead performed at her funeral party.
