Souper Catholic Stigma

During the Irish Famine, some Protestants offered to feed children, but only if they received Protestant teachings. This forced Catholics to choose between their children and their faith, resulting in the stigmatization of all Protestant charity. "Souper" remained an insult into the 20th century.
