Failed Parachute Jump: Franz Reichelt

In 1912, Franz Reichelt, a tailor and inventor, died after jumping off the Eiffel Tower wearing a parachute of his own invention made from cloth. Despite being advised to use a dummy for the experiment, Reichelt declined, stating that he wanted to prove the worth of his invention. He is known as the "Flying Tailor."
